Prayers will be sent from the third floor of the Howard County Courthouse on Thursday.
A community call to prayer has been organized for 12:10 p.m.
“We don't need our pastors to organize this,” Justice of the Peace Kathryn Wiseman said. “This needs to come from the people.”
The scripture being used in support of the call to prayer is 2 Chronicles 7:13-15; “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Praying will be the only thing taking place during this gathering. Several community leaders will be on hand leading prayers with time alloted for individuals who wish to add their own prayers.
“We will be praying for rain during this call to prayer. We desperately need it,” Wiseman said.
“We are a Christian nation. We need to rise up and show God that we are a Christian nation.”
Wiseman also noted that those attending the Day of Prayer observance may want to take the opportunity to cast an early ballot in the May 12 school board, council and 4B project elections. If so, they should bring identification. Voting will be taking place on the third floor as well.
