Connie Rudelle Firenza Wilson

May 6, 2013

Connie Rudelle Firenza Wilson of Colorado City, formerly of Big Spring was born on Aug. 14, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Frank Rudelle (Wright) Firenza. She passed away May 3, 2013, in Lubbock after a brief illness.

She attended schools in Olney and Megargle, Texas before transferring to Coahoma High School for her senior year. After one year at Texas Women’s University, Connie began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Big Spring as an operator and service rep. When those jobs were no longer available in Big Spring, she drove to Midland to continue her service until she could retire.

After retiring, Connie totally changed her career path, taking classes at Howard County Junior College to become a registered nurse, and in 1989 earned her BSN from West Texas State University in Canyon. Connie worked in hospitals in Big Spring and Murfreesboro, Tenn., before retiring as a charge nurse with the Big Spring VA Hospital after almost 20 years of service.

She was an animal lover, a voracious reader, a gardener and a lifelong student.

Connie is survived by B H Wilson; one daughter, Dona Byerley; two grandchildren, Andrea Zonghi (Cory Robataille) and Joseph “Zeff” Zonghi (Shelby Austin), who are expecting Connie’s soon-to-arrive great granddaughter; three brothers, Frankie Firenza, Raymond Firenza and David Firenza; one sister Judy Carver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Our heartfelt thanks to the second floor staff of Trust Point Hospital, to Bender Terrace Nursing Home and to Interim Hospice for their kindness, patience and skilled care these past few months.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date in Colorado City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Howard County Humane Society P.O. Box 823 Big Spring, TX 79721 or to a charity of your choice.
