A different kind of school work is beginning at Big Spring Independent School District.

While students and teachers prepare for summer vacation, construction work on four new elementary campuses is beginning in earnest.

Crews have begun preparing the sites for three of the four new schools in recent days, and the pace of work will only increase in the coming weeks, BSISD officials said.

Site preparation has begun at Washington, Marcy and Goliad schools, said BSISD Transportation Director Wayland Pierce, who also serves as the school district's liaison with the project contractors.
