Annexation matters are expected to be the main topics of conversation when the Big Spring City Council holds its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in council chambers, located at 307 E. Fourth St.
Council members will hold a series of public hearings concerning the possible annexation and/or rezoning of property during the meeting.
The first public hearing concerns the possible annexation into the city limits of approximately 40 acres of city-owned land south of Willard Street and west of Parkway Drive, followed by another hearing to give citizens a chance to discuss how they would like to see the property zoned.
Another pair of public hearings concern the possible remapping and zoning of almost two acres in the Brennand Addition in Big Spring. The rezoning discussion will involve possibly changing the property's designation from single family 2 to multi-family zoning. The council will later consider first reading of an ordinance authorizing the remapping and rezoning of the property.
In addition, the council also will consider a petition to annex slightly more than 74 acres in the Kentwood Addition during the meeting.
