County lowers road access permit

October 9, 2013

Howard County commissioners voted to chop off $2,000 from a recently approved road access permit during a special meeting Monday.

In August, commissioners approved a fee of $4,500 for all new access entrances which intersect county roads for commercial purposes — except agricultural related industries. The construction of the entrances are required to conform with county road and bridge department requirements.

Since that time, however, several businesses, primarily in the oilfield sector, expressed concerns about the new fee and County Judge Mark Barr decided commissioners needed to revisit the idea.
