Crossroads teams brace for playoffs

November 13, 2013

Area playoff pairings have been set.

The Crossroads area football playoff pairings have been finalized.

Big Spring (7-3) will be facing Fabens (4-6) in Pecos on Friday at 7:30 p.m. If the Steers can rebound from Friday's 31-0 loss against Monahans and knock Fabens out of contention, they could again face Andrews (4-6) — which they defeated 61-38 in predistrict play — in the area round, should the Mustangs come out ahead of Borger (3-7).

The road will get a bit harder for BSHS if it can make it to the regional quarterfinal round. At that point, the Steers would likely face Stephenville (8-1) — the defending 3A champion.

Forsan came out ahead of a shootout with Winters to save its season and make a postseason appearance for the third straight year under Head Coach Jason Phillips' tutelage.

But the Buffaloes (4-6) haven't advanced past the bi-district round and that's something Phillips hopes to remedy.

Standing in his way is Windthorst (5-5), which FHS will meet in Colorado City on Friday at 7:30 p.m. If the Buffs topple the Trojans, Forsan would have a rematch with Sundown (7-3), which defeated FHS 40-2 earlier in the season. If the Buffaloes pull off a win over the Roughnecks, they almost certainly will meet defending Class A champion Stamford (9-1) — Forsan's district foe and another squad it would try to avenge a loss against.

Stanton (6-4) will have its hands full as it opens the postseason against undefeated Cisco (10-0) in Sweetwater on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Should the Buffaloes take out the Loboes, it would meet the winner of the Spearman-Tulia game.

Grady (6-4) went to the regional semifinal last year where it lost to Petersburg and will return to the playoff this season with a veteran cast at the Six-Man level. The Wildcats' first test will come against
Whiteface (9-1) in Ropesville on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Finally, Garden City (9-1) claimed a first round bye and will have the week off before resuming play Nov. 22.
