Dan Whitaker, 71, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, in a local hospital. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas. He farmed and ranched in the Vincent Community until 1980, when he moved to Nashville, Tenn. He returned to Big Spring in 2007.
Survivors include two daughters, Stacey Childers and husband Jeff and Lori Massingill and husband Jim, all of Big Spring; one son, Joe Dan Whitaker II and wife Cheryl of Big Spring; one brother, Jim Whitaker of Austin; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Franklin Whitaker and Dorothy Estene Slaton Whitaker.
The family suggests memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4110 17th St, Apt. 503, Lubbock, Texas, 79416.
