Dean Forrest

Dean Forrest, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Scurry Street, Big Spring, Texas, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, with pastors Dr. Keith Wiseman and the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating. A reception will follow in Garrett Hall.

Dean, son of W.H. and Jewell Forrest, was born Nov. 22, 1927, in the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Tom Rogers. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County, Texas.

After graduation, he briefly farmed before he began his 38-year career with Texas Electric Service Co. Dean married JoAnne Jones on June 23, 1950, in First United Methodist Church in Stanton, Texas. After his retirement from Texas Electric, he began his lifelong passion as a true working cowboy. Dean was one of the founding members of the Howard County Youth Horseman Association, served on the board of the Big Spring State Hospital Corral and Volunteer Council and was an active supporter of the American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life. As an active, dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church and the Epworth Sunday School Class, Dean quietly served in many capacities.

Dean is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joannne; daughters Jann Caffey and husband Roddy of Big Spring and Jill Heith and husband Bobby of Buda, Texas. Known lovingly as Geep, he is survived by grandchildren Stacey Ream and wife Melodi of Midland, Texas, Kori Simon and husband Mike of Baton Rouge, La., Gage Heith of Buda, Texas, and Lindsey Childress and husband Daylan of Haslet, Texas; and great-grandchildren Forrest Ream, Reagan Ream, Ryan Simon, Lily and River Holland-Heith, and Finley Childress. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda Kuykendall of Midland, Texas; a brother, Terry Forrest and wife Vicci of Midland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter-in-law Tamy Ream.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church or to the Howard County Relay For Life at American Cancer Society, Relay for Life in care of Sandy Griffin, 1217 E. 17th, Big Spring, TX 79720.
