DeAnda wins BSISD runoff election

Retired teacher Pat DeAnda bested incumbent Maria Padilla to win the Big Spring Independent School District District 2 seat in Saturday's runoff election.

In extremely light voting, DeAnda edged Padilla by a 13-10 margin. Padilla had finished slightly ahead of DeAnda during the municipal election in May. However, since neither woman gained a majority of the vote total, a runoff election was ordered.

Padilla, first elected to the BSISD board in 2003, was seeking her fourth term as a trustee.

DeAnda will be sworn in during a special board meeting scheduled for 5:15 p.m. in the high school board room.
