Delmer Lee Turner

Delmer Lee Turner, 82, of Big Spring, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Delmer was born March 9, 1931, in Big Spring, and married Evelyn Sue Norris Nov. 18, 1966 in Big Spring. She preceded him in death Sept. 21, 1985.
He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1948 and was inducted into the BSHS Hall of Fame in two sports. He played football for the only team that Howard College ever fielded and also played basketball. He became a teacher and started at Gayhill School. Later, he moved to Sands High School and taught business classes. He retired in 1989.
He is survived by one son, Joe Turner and wife, Susan, of Luther,Texas; a grandson; two sisters, Geneva Kiser and husband, Bob of Fort Worth, Texas, and Edwina Stewart of Abilene, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry and Emma Gertrude (Smith) Turner; four sisters, Birdie Turner, Lucille Turner, Martha Burgner, and Clotee Reynolds; and two brothers, Paul Turner and Jim Turner.
