September 27, 2013

A 19-year-old Howard County resident was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy in an early Friday incident.

Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker said the shooting occurred after Deputy Alfredo Hilario responded to a 911 call at a residence south of Big Spring around 2 a.m. today.

"According to the preliminary investigation, the deputy encountered an armed man and shot the individual," Parker said. The man, 19-year-old Caleb Hector, died later in the morning at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.

Deputy Hilario has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of the investigation by Texas Rangers.

Parker said no other information would be released today.
