Diez y seis festival starts Friday

September 15, 2011

Downtown Big Spring Heart of the City Park will turn into a fiesta Friday night and Saturday. ALSA, a local community club, is bringing live music, food vendors and other vendors together for a community celebration of diez y seis de Septembre (Sept. 16) —Mexican independence day.

“This is just one more way we can serve the community and provide a community and family oriented event,” said Jaime De los Santos, ALSA vice president.

Friday festivities are scheduled to start with live music around 7 p.m. with Los Hermanos Ramos, a group from Snyder and continue until midnight. There will also be food vendors and arts and crafts vendors on hand for those attending to enjoy. In addition to vendors and live music, there will be kid-oriented activities such as a jumping castle.

“This isn't just for the adults. This is something the whole family can enjoy,” De los Santos said.
