District 2-2A offers plenty of excitement Friday

November 3, 2011

Welcome to the final week of the regular season. Get ready for a bumpy, hard-hitting ride. District 2-2A has all the excitement football fans could want this week, as three area teams jockey for position.

The 6-3 Coahoma Bulldogs have already clinched a playoff spot as they sit side-by-side with Idalou at 5-0 in district play. They will be playing for the district title Friday night in Idalou. Bulldogs' head coach Trey Gardner said it was a win-win situation for his team.

“Obviously, if we win, we are the district champions,” Coach Gardner said. “However, if we lose, it is a great warmup game for the playoffs. We are pretty sure the team we play in the playoffs will not be as good as Idalou.”

Below Coahoma in the standings are Hawley, Forsan and Stanton. All of whom would love a shot at the playoffs. Forsan is coming off of a tough loss to Stanton, heading into this week's showdown with Hawley, a team currently sitting a game ahead of the Buffaloes.

Here is how the last playoff spot boils down:
If Stanton loses and Forsan wins, Forsan makes the playoffs.
If Stanton wins and Forsan wins by at least 13 points, Forsan makes the playoffs.
Being a game ahead of the two herds of Buffaloes, all Hawley needs to do for a playoff berth is to beat Forsan.

“I like our chances,” Forsan's head coach, Jason Phillips said of the upcoming match with Hawley.
“We have had some good practices this week and the team is intent on giving it everything they have.”

Forsan has expanded its roster a bit going into the regular season finale, adding some younger players to the mix and moving the players around.

Forsan will be playing in Hawley Friday night. Stanton will be playing Anson at home Friday night in an attempt to keep them winless.
