District 4-3A track meet results from Snyder (Day 1)

The Big Spring Steers and Lady Steers have already begun qualifying for the regional meet by performing well at the first day of the District 4-3A meet in Snyder on Monday. The meet will wrap up Thursday.

SNYDER — Big Spring's varsity track squads competed in the first day of the District 4-3A in Snyder on Monday, with several Steers and Lady Steers placing among the top-ranked participants.

Boys
• Triple jump — Shahiem Menefield, fifth place, 40-10 ½.
• 3,200 — Gustavo Lugo, first place, 10:48:42; Joshua Means, second place 11:10.

Girls
• Triple jump — Yaneira Tuitt, first place, 34-9 ¾.
• Shot put — Julia Wilson, fifth place, 31-8 ¾.
• 3,200 — Karina Alvarado, second place, 13:27.

The second day of the district meet will resume in Snyder on Thursday. The area meet is slated to be held in Pecos on April 19, with the regional being held in Lubbock April 26-27.

The Big Spring girls unseated Wylie as district champions for the first time in more than 20 years last season and finished as state runners-up.
