Doris Lewis, 62, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Holston Banks of Shiloh House of Praise and the Rev. Gary Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born April 13, 1949, in Big Spring to Helen and Charles Peterson. She worked as a secretary for Judge Walter Grice. Later, she worked at the Big Spring State Hospital for 28 years as a medical records technician. She attended Shiloh House of Praise and lived most of her life in Big Spring.
She is survived by her husband, Herschel Lewis of Big Spring; one daughter, Carletta Lewis McKinney of Big Spring; one son, Anthony Lewis Sr. of Big Spring; three sisters, Joyce Molett of Clovis, N.M., Mary Threats and Charlene Rushin and husband Isaiah Edwards, all of Big Spring; one brother, Gary Peterson of San Diego; one aunt, Bessie Mae Sanders; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Threats; her father, Charles Peterson; daughter, Deborah Lewis; and two brothers, Larry Peterson and Cecil Johnson.
