Douglas E. Beams, 61, formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, June 20, 2013, in Hawaii. The family will receive friends 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Jake Merritt Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born Jan. 11, 1952, to Estelle Mays Beams and Douglas Eugene Beams. He lived most of his life in Big Spring, moving to San Antonio a few years ago. At the time of his death, he and his wife were in the process of moving to Hawaii. Doug attended Texas Tech University and was an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad from 1973 until 1991. His passion was physical fitness and body building, which later became his profession. He had owned the Body Center in Big Spring and had been co-owner of World Gym in Midland. In San Antonio, he owned Anytime Fitness Centers and was co-owner of Full Life Fitness, later sold to Gold's Gym. He was also an independent realtor in San Antonio.

He is survived by his wife, Carla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Eugene Beams, III.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ashinhurst, John Lyons, Jake Merritt Sr., Phil Barber, Don Swisher, Jarroll Carroll and Van Lewis.
