Also injured in the traffic accident was Enriquez Hernandez Jr. of San Elizario, Texas, who was behind the wheel of a 2006 Kenworth tractor trailer traveling west at the time of the accident. The extent of Hernandez's injuries are unknown at this time, according to DPS officials.

The accident was reported at 4:39 p.m., according to law enforcement officials, seven-tenths of a mile west of the 182 mile marker on Interstate Highway 20.

The pickup hit the Kenworth tractor-trailer head-on, according to the report.

Officials with DPS said it's unclear if the piece of pipe that caused the accident was lying in the roadway or was dropped from another vehicle moments before the accident.
