Dr. Russell A. Patrick Sr.

Dr. Russell A. Patrick Sr., 84, of Big Spring, died Monday, June 2, 2014, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Jennings, Mo. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948. He graduated from Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth with a doctorate degree. Dr. Patrick served as a missionary in Columbia, South America as well as pastoring churches in Kirkwood, Missouri and Washington, DC. He became a chaplain with the Veterans Administration System in 1976, moving to Big Spring to work with the Big Spring Veterans Administration Medical Center, retiring in 1995. He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include one son, Russell A. Patrick, Jr. and wife, Trini of Midland; four daughters, Donna Smith and husband, Richard of Harrogate, Tenn., Leanne Ward and husband, Steve of Houston, Amy Aguilar and husband, Jess of Andrews and Michelle Kanz of New Braunfels; one brother, Luther Patrick of Hannibal, Mo.; two sisters, Wanda Kassebaum of Washington, Mo. and Sharon Ruble and husband, Don of St. Louis, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Nancy Patrick and LaVerne Patrick who he later married.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Patrick; and one brother, Norman Patrick.
