Edgar Helwig, 97, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Home in Big Spring. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence.

He was born Oct. 14, 1915, in Miles, Texas, to Edmond and Selma Muller Helwig. After serving his country in the United States Army during World War II, Edgar lived and farmed in St. Lawrence since 1947. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gun sports and making fiddles.

Survivors include nephews, Richard Helwig and wife Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Roland Wallace and wife Beverly of Midland; his close friends who cared for him, Alfred and Anna Marie Schwartz; and his many friends in the St. Lawrence community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter Helwig, Marvin Helwig and Ted Helwig; and a sister, Eva Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Al Schwartz Jr., Grant Schwartz, Kenneth Braden, Charles Braden, Dwayne Braden and Mark Frysak.

The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
