Egg hunts, concert on the way

March 26, 2013

It's going to be a busy weekend in Big Spring with a lot of bunny hopping and music.

• Friday, the Lamun-Lusk-Sanches Texas State Veterans Home will hold its 6th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at 2 p.m. on the facility's grounds. Free to the public, the event will feature Easter egg hunting in three age groups as well as food, drinks, games and more.

• Saturday, the fun continues at Comanche Trail Park. First Church of the Nazarene will hold its annual free Easter egg hunt beginning at 11 a.m. at the Old Settler's Pavilion. In addition to the “hunt,” those attending will be treated to hot dogs, drinks and children's games.

• Saturday evening, Big Spring Symphony Orchestra will feature the music of ABBA during an 8 o'clock performance at the Municipal Auditorium.

Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $13 for seniors and $8 for students and are available at the Heritage Museum, Blum’s Jewelers and the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be sold at the door the night of the show. A handicapped entrance is on the east side of the auditorium. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Dr. Keith Graumann, conductor and musical director of the orchestra, said, “The music of ABBA just makes you feel good.”

The audience will hear such ABBA favorites as “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “Fernando” and “The Winner Takes It All.” The orchestra will be joined by Jeans ‘N’ Classics performers Peter Brennan on guitar, Jeff Christmas on drums, Don Paulton on keyboards and Daryl Stacey on electric bass. Lead vocalists are Katalin Kiss, Stephanie Martin, Kathryn Rose and Lis Soderberg.

Sunday is Easter and many churches in the Crossroads area will host various activities, in addition to special services.
