Elvira Cantu, 88, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Marco Arizmendi Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ackerly Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Yorktown, Texas, to Catarina and Antonio Pena. She moved to Ackerly in 1970 from Goliad County, Texas. She married Domingo Cantu Sr. and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a Jehovah’s Witness.

She is survived by five sons, Rudy Cantu and wife Mary of Charco, Enrique Cantu and wife Yolanda of Rowlett, Silberio Cantu and wife Olga of Roanoke, Domingo Cantu Jr. and wife Macaria and Jesse Cantu and wife Sylvia, all of Big Spring; two daughters, Irene Perez and husband Jose of Goliad and Sandra Hensley and husband Andy of Ackerly; one sister, Lillie Cruz of San Antonio; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Dolores Cantu of Ackerly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one son, Elizar Cantu; three brothers; and two sisters.
