Elvira Gandar, 73, of Big Spring, Texas, died Sunday Nov. 17, 2013 at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born May 20, 1940, in Big Spring to Flora and Jesus Loya and was a lifetime resident of the community. She worked as a cook for Big Spring State Hospital and later for Big Spring Independent School District for 19 years. She won numerous ribbons for pies and cooking in the Howard County Fairs. She was also a Dallas Cowboy fan. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and was a Guadalupana and a Cursillista.
She is survived by two sons: George Gandar and Arnold Gandar and wife Priscilla, all of Big Spring; two daughters, Grace Granados and husband Henry and Cecilia Granados and husband John, all of Big Spring; one brother, Jesse Loya and wife Lupe of Big Spring; two sisters, Linda Paradez and Flora Viera, both of Big Spring; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Arnoldo Gandar Oct. 7, 2003; one brother Ramon Loya; two sisters, Elidia Loya and Maria Hernandez and one grandson, Christopher Arenivaz
Pallbearers will be Benito Paredez, Jerry Paredez, Jerry Palomo, Jonathan Granados, Sammy Loya, and Oscar Madrid. Honorary Pallbearers are Los Crusistallas.
