Emma Gene Chandler, 84, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.

She was born April 29, 1927, Athens, Texas. She lived most of her life in Big Spring. She married Perry Chandler on June 21, 1947, in Rockwall, Texas, and he preceded her in death June 29, 1994.

She worked for more than 20 years at Cosden Credit Union. She was an active member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends of the “Widows Support Group,” a title they gave themselves. She was also considered a “green thumb” when it came to raising roses.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring person, always putting others before herself.

She is survived by her daughter, Joy Aldridge of Big Spring; a son, Craig Chandler and wife Lesley of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Lesley Boetler and husband Allen of Dimmitt, Anna Castaneda Gann and husband Ben, Robert Aldridge Jr., Amanda Hernandez Nieto and husband Adam and Heather Chandler, all of Big Spring, and Cody Chandler and wife Patsy of Mississippi; and four great-grandchildren, Kaden Chandler, Ruthie Boetler, Jacob Boetler and Josiah Nieto.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Emzie Woodard, Robert Aldridge Jr., Adam Nieto, Ben Gann, Donnie Baker and Cody Chandler.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 705 W FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
