Esther Corene Schaffner, 77, of Big Spring went to her eternal home Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Baptist Temple Church with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Corene was born Sept. 15, 1935, in Cottonwood, Texas, on the family farm to Buddy B. and Mary Ettie Breeding Jones.

She married Billy Sam Schaffner on Aug. 16, 1958, in Abilene, Texas. They lived in Abilene, Midland and Amarillo, finally settling in Big Spring in 1973. Corene worked for the Big Spring Independent School District tax office and then the counselor office as a secretary, retiring after 25 years for health reasons.

She was a member of Big Spring Area Retired Teachers Association and a representative of Baptist Temple Church on the executive board of the Crossroads Baptist Association.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Schaffner; three children, son, Shane Schaffner and wife Cynthia of Big Spring, son, Kyle Schaffner and wife Kim of Fort Worth, daughter, Tracey Nichols and husband Brent of Burnet; eight grandchildren; a neice and four nephews; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Buddy B. and Mary Ettie Jones; three brothers, Leo, W.H. (Dub) and Elvin Jones; three sisters, Pauline Matthiessen, Loree Green and Wilda Jones; and two nephews.
