Esther Haggard, 94, of Stanton, Texas died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, in at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stanton. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
A vigil service will be 7 p.m., Monday, Oct.14, 2013, at the funeral home.
She was born March 4, 1919, in New Orleans, La., and married Robert Haggard Aug.19, 1938, in Houston, Texas. He preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1996.
Mrs. Haggard came to Martin County in 1946 from Houston and worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 29 years, retiring March 10, 1998. She was a loving, caring and giving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by three children, Robbie Jean Nunneley of Tulsa, Okla., Robert Haggard of Point of Rocks, Md., and Lynnette Bruce of Stanton; 11 grandchildren, Rusty Haggard of Flower Mound, Texas, Jeff Haggard of Canyon, Texas, Cathie Carter and Rhonda Webster, both of Tulsa, Okla., Kristi Roberts and Wendy Vester, both of Albuquerque, N.M., Melanie Kerby of Charleston, S.C., Ricky Lucas of Llano, Erika Lucas of Midland, Texas, Michelle Lucas of Carlsbad, N.M., and Meagan Bruce of Midland; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth "Butch" Haggard; five sisters; and two brothers.
The family suggests memorials be made to Martin County Library, P. O. Box 1187, Stanton, Texas 79782.
