And his impact continues âŠ
Skipper Driver, a major supporter of the Howard County Fair and Relay for Life passed away earlier this year after a long fight with cancer, but by no means has he stopped making a contribution on the community he loved so much.
In honor of Driver, the Howard County Fair Board decided to donate $1 from every ticket sold at the 2011 fair to the local Relay For Life campaign. Tuesday afternoon, members of the fair board, along with Driver's wife Wanda, presented the $4,175 check to members of the Relay For Life committee.
âWe are very grateful for this donation,â event chair Manny Negron said. âWe will continue to keep Skipper and his family in our thoughts and prayers.â
The donation will be used to purchase education material for the 2012 Relay For Life event, as well as help with the services provided by the American Cancer Society, Negron said.
âThis donation was made in honor of Skipper,â Howard County Fair Board president Janeice Barnes said. âHe is missed greatly by all.â
The 2012 Relay For Life is scheduled for April 20-21 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The walk will take place at Memorial Stadium, located on the Howard College campus, instead of the usual Blankenship Field.
âWe are making things different and changing it up this year,â Negron said. âWith the added parking we can focus more on getting people there.â
