Games, rides and cotton candy mean only one thing â the carnival is returning to Big Spring.
The Pride of Texas Carnival will be open at from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. today through Sunday at the College Park Shopping Center, located at Fourth and Birdwell. The event is being brought to the community by the carnival, shopping center and Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce.
âThis is something we are all working together on in order to bring a fun event to the community,â said Debbye ValVerde, chamber executive director.
Carnival officials have also been working with the city in order to obtain permits and make sure the show is within the city parameters.
âThey have assured us this is a safe and family fun activity,â ValVerde said. âThere will be local patrol during the event.â
It has been a couple of years since a carnival has been present at a shopping center in Big Spring, according to ValVerde.
âWe were looking to bring something the whole family could enjoy and we think this will be a really good event that will do that,â she added.
The carnival will have more than a dozen games for all ages to enjoy, as well as a kiddie-ride section and rides for adults. Some of the rides included are The Blizzard and the original Zipper from Michael Jackson's Neverland. Tickets for the rides will be $1 and wristbands can be purchased for $20.
âThe wristbands will get unlimited rides the night of purchase, but cutoff to purchase wristbands will be at 10 p.m. each night,â according to Chuck Sanders, carnival employee.
There will also be the traditional carnival food available for purchase, such as funnel cakes, cotton candy, corn dogs and refreshments.
âWe just want everyone to come out and have a fun evening with the family,â ValVerde said. âThis is something we might bring back next year if we receive enough response from the community.â
The Pride of Texas Carnival will conclude its stay in Big Spring on Sunday. The carnival will move on to Sweetwater in order to be part of that community's Fourth of July festivities.
