Family Medical Center patient records hacked

Family Medical Center was among several healthcare operations nationwide that had patient information hacked by a cyber-criminal attack, hospital officials said.Amanda Duforat, marketing director at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, said limited personal information — names, addresses, birthdates, telephone numbers and social security numbers — belonging to “some” patients seen at Family Medical during the past five years was hacked during the cyber-attack, believed to be orchestrated by a group in China in April and June.The stolen information did not include any medical or credit card information, nor were any of SMMC’s patient records hacked, Duforat said.For more of this story, read Wednesday's edition of the Herald.
