Family Medical Center patient records hacked

August 20, 2014

Family Medical Center was among several healthcare operations nationwide that had patient information hacked by a cyber-criminal attack, hospital officials said.

Amanda Duforat, marketing director at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, said limited personal information — names, addresses, birthdates, telephone numbers and social security numbers — belonging to “some” patients seen at Family Medical during the past five years was hacked during the cyber-attack, believed to be orchestrated by a group in China in April and June.

The stolen information did not include any medical or credit card information, nor were any of SMMC’s patient records hacked, Duforat said.
