The American Junior Rodeo Association has a new face, a local face, at least for awhile that is.

Anne-Marie Lugo, a 14-year-old Forsan High School student, was recently chosen to be featured on the AJRA 60th anniversary Dodge truck given away for the year. Though rodeo is a a big part of her life and her resume is full of accomplishments to prove it, her talents don't stop there.

“Not only has she been a winner at every stage at this point, but she has also been a fantastic example for her peers and regularly mentors younger girls,” Cindy Lugo, Anne-Marie's mother, said.

Her accomplishments in the rodeo circuit start at the age of 6 and include WTRA Pole Bending Champion of 8 and under division in 2006 with a 10-performance win streak and multiple wins in 4H horse judging competitions at 6, 7 and 8 years old. She is a three-time Jurassic Classic Barrel Racing Pee-Wee 2D champion from 2006 to 2008. In 2010, she was the Midland Classic Target Race Average Winner in open barrels and the Lone Star Cowboy Classic Barrel Race winner of more than $3,200 in one summer and CC5D finals combined.

She was a state qualifier in poles in the Texas Junior High Rodeo Association for 2011-12. Since the beginning of this year, she has had multiple wins in the 14- to 18-year-old age group in the Howard County Youth Horseman's Club and has placed in the top five in barrels and top seven in poles in WTRA.

“My short term goal is to be competitive and go as far as possible in both AJRA and THSRA. My goal, however, is to qualify for state and nationals in high school rodeo. Between now and high school graduation I want to compete in WPRA junior division which would lay the groundwork for competition in PRCA/WPRA rodeos on the professional level,” Anne-Marie said.

Her mother added, “Hopefully, with this groundwork laid, as any good little barrel racer will tell you … Vegas here we come for the National Finals Rodeo … one day. It's always good to have goals and be focused.”
