January 17, 2013

In approximately two weeks, political hopefuls all over the Crossroads area will have the chance to toss their hats in the ring for municipal elections slated for May 11.

In the city of Big Spring, seats held by Mayor Tommy Duncan and District 5 Councilman Craig Olson will be up for grabs, according to officials with city secretary's office. The first day to file to run in all municipal elections is Jan. 30.

Those looking to get a jump on the filing process can download applications and necessary forms from the Texas Secretary of State website, located at

According to Big Spring officials, political hopefuls can also pick up filing packets from city hall — located at 310 Nolan St. — although packets updated for the 2013 election won't be available until Jan. 30.

Filing for the election is being handled by the city of Big Spring Administration, while the election itself will once again be coordinated by the Howard County Elections Administration Office. For more information on filing to run in the May election, contact Big Spring City Hall at 432-264-2513.

In Stanton — the Martin County seat — two positions will be available, as District 4 Councilman Steven Villa and Councilman At-Large Danny Fryar could have their seats challenged.
