Firefighters’ memorial ceremony set Saturday

October 4, 2013

Bells will ring out across the nation this weekend in remembrance of firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

Bells Across America, a national ceremony honoring fallen firefighters, will be held locally at 10 a.m. Saturday at the entrance of First United Methodist Church.

“The Big Spring Fire Department and Honor Guard will be participating,” said Albert Cavazos, firefighter and Honor Guard commander. “We will begin with an invocation then we will call out the names of the Texas firefighters who have died in the line of duty. We will also be representing the other 77 firefighters who were lost in 2012.

“We will have our ceremonial bell there which we will ring, and at the end of program, we will also ring the church bells in honor of the fallen firefighters.”
