Firefighters battling wildfire; homes threatened

Beginning about 3 p.m. today (Thursday, July 10) firefighters had been battling a wildfire that has threatened houses and other buildings south of Thorpe Road in Big Spring near Clanton. As of 4:30, officials said the fire was surrounded and being allowed to burn out while firefighters protected homes in the area. Big Spring Herald has reporters on the scene and will have an article on the blaze in Friday's edition.
