FISD board to appoint health council tonight

January 12, 2012

FORSAN — School district trustees here are expected to approve the appointment of a School Health Advisory Council when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. tonight in the administration wing board room.

SHACs are appointed to review and make recommendations on a wide variety of health-related activities, said Randy Johnson, Forsan Independent School District superintendent.

“They will review all policies tied to student health and report back to the school board with their recommendations,” Johnson said. “Among the programs they will review are physical education, nutrition, counseling and health classes.”

The council recently lost its chairperson, Melanie Wheeler, who has left the district. Johnson said Linda Kay Stallings and Bella Willard will co-chair the committee. Other committee members are Angela Kennedy, Greg Gabehart, Delma Hickman, Valerie Cervantes and Tiana Hergert.

Also tonight, the board will consult with the district's attorneys in closed session. Johnson said the board will discuss “the district's legal relationship with various parent groups,” but declined to go into further detail, citing confidentiality requirements.

In other business tonight, trustees will consider:
• Auditors for the 2011-2012 school year.
• Evaluation and contract extension of the superintendent.
• Bills and the monthly financial report.
