Floyd Martin

October 10, 2011

Sadly, my beloved husband, our beloved father and grandfather, Floyd Martin, 79 years old, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. He was surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends during his last days.

He was born in Big Spring, Texas on Sept. 21, 1932, to Irland and Lena Ruth Sample Martin. His mother died when he was a young child. Lee and Cordelia Castle raised Floyd from the age of 13 months and moved to Knott. He attended school in Knott and later graduated from Stanton High School in 1950. He married the love of his life, Mary Frances Burchett, on Aug. 5, 1950, in Big Spring, Texas, and they were married for 61 years. Floyd was a wonderful provider for his family and he will be loved and missed.

Floyd was a proud farmer and rancher. He was a deacon and actively involved at Lenorah Baptist Church. He had his own Christian ministry and was passionate about learning the Bible and sharing the word of God with others. His ministry included the Big Spring Prison for six years, along with many youth programs in Tarzan and Lenorah.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, his two sons, Larry and Lonny Martin, and one grandchild, L. V. Welch.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances; two daughters, Charoltte Welch of Midland and Belinda DeArman and husband, Jeff of Plano; his grandchildren, Monica Burks, Scottie and Holly Welch, Waylon Martin, Travis and Kristin Martin, Terri and Jesse McDaniel and Alyssa DeArman; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is Virginia Martin of Midland and her two sons, Jeff and Ray Duke.
The family is very appreciative of the love and support by many of his friends over these last few days.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Stanton with the Rev. Leandro Gonzales and Dr. John Key officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. Online condolences can be made at:
