FORSAN — Thursday's game against Winters was basically a tune-up game for Forsan, who had already locked up the No. 2 seed in District 6-1A, defeated the Blizzards 8-2.
Blaise Coffman issued zero walks, didn't give up a run and struck out five in five innings on the mound. Clayton Galloway and Trevor Burchett each saw one inning of work as well.
“Blaise was real effective,” FHS Head Coach Jason Phillips said. “He had great control and off-speed pitches. He got off us off to a good start. And we hit the ball well from the first inning until the end of the game. We also played great defense — we turned three doubleplays.”
Galloway led the offense going 3-3 with a pair of singles and a triple and scoring three runs. Coffman had a triple, Burchett recorded a double, Garrett Kligora had two base hits and Tyler Evans picked up a single.
The Buffs will open the playoff with a three-game series against the Van Horn Eagles on May 3 at 6 p.m. in Monahans. Phillips doesn't know much about the distant team yet, but feels confident in his own squad's abilities.
“Slowly but surely, we've become a better baseball team,” Phillips added. “Our defense has been solid, our pitching has been great the last couple weeks. If we play the way we're capable, we could make a little noise in the playoffs.”View more articles in:
