Forsan falls to Stanton
FORSAN — In a surprising display of defensive fortitude, The Stanton Buffaloes have caught up with the Forsan Buffaloes in the playoff race after defeating their district rivals 23-13 Friday night. Unfortunately for both squads the tie is for fourth place in the district. Stanton and Forsan both stand at 2-3 in district play behind Hawley (3-2). Of course, Idalou and Coahoma are sitting pretty on top of the district, both without a district loss, but that will change Friday night when the two teams meet for the district championship.As far as Forsan and Stanton, both of their futures are relying on Forsan defeating Hawley Friday night. A Buffalo win, combined with a Stanton win over winless Anson, would create a three-way tie for third place. Five turnovers marked the difference in the game Friday night, as Forsan led Stanton in almost all categories. Their 165 rushing yards and 136 passing yards combined for over 300yards of offense, 68 more than Stanton. However, Stanton did accumulate 16 first downs in the game, compared to Forsan's nine.Forsan got the ball rolling early, as Foster Burchett broke free from 28 yards out and scored. But the lead would be short-lived, as Stanton's Tim Anderson crashed through the line and scored from the three-yard line with six minutes remaining in the first quarter. Neither team was able to find pay dirt in the second frame, but Brendan Roman put Forsan back on top in the third, when he went off on a 67-yard tear for a touchdown.But the final quarter —and the game — would belong to Stanton, as Anderson scored two more touchdowns to seal the win and keep play off hopes alive in Stanton.Anderson finished the night with 79 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while Shane Conaway was eight out of 18 passing for 112 yards.For Forsan, Toa MauMau threw five completions for 114 yards, most of which going to Trevor Burchett (53 yards) and Patrick Robles (44 yards).Brendan Roman rushed for 111 yards on 11 carries and Foster Burchett rushed for 32 yards on four carries.
