Forsan girls edge Garden City to start season

November 10, 2010

Forsan's Ambra Hill leads a fastbreak during the Lady Buffs' 39-37 win over Garden City Tuesday.

FORSAN — The first-game jitters were apparent for the Forsan girls basketball team and head coach Robert Hillger.

The good news is it didn't stop them from starting the year with a 39-37 win over Garden City Tuesday in Forsan.

Miranda Park led the way with a team-high nine points. Behind her was Morgan Forshee with eight points and six rebounds. Ambra Hill also had eight points and six boards. Shelby Roemer had seven rebounds and Stevie Wilson had a team-high 10.

What highlighted this game for Hillger was the inconsistent play, which is to be expected in the first contest. However, a lot of that had to do with Garden City's full-court press.

“Sloppy, it's the first game of the year,” he said. “We made too many mistakes because of what they were doing. They've got a scrappy bunch of kids. They were working real hard. We let them get the best of us because of what they were doing. We were panicking and turning the ball over.”

Hillger is glad his team saw the press as much as it did. He said it gives the Lady Buffs more incentive to work on preventing it from disrupting the offense.

Things picked up in the third quarter when the Lady Kats went on a 10-0 run to grab a 27-19 lead after the Lady Buffs went into halftime with a 19-17.
