Forsan ISD to give pay raises

FORSAN — Forsan Independent School District officials are dipping into their rainy day fund to help pay for pay raises and employee insurance costs this coming school year.

School trustees recently decided to go ahead with plans for modest pay raises for teachers and other district employees this year, despite drastic cuts in state aid that will hit the district the next two fiscal years.

FISD will receive approximately $1.5 million less in state revenue during the coming biennium, and it was feared that those cuts would cancel out pay raises which FISD has annually given its employees.

However, Superintendent Randy Johnson said attrition, plus a modest dip into the district's reserve fund, will allow officials to hand out pay raises this year, as well as continue to pay employees' health insurance costs.
