FORSAN â School officials here are waiting to see if recent efforts to âgo greenâ â become more energy efficient â will help the district âsee greenâ â in other words, save money.
For more than a year, Forsan Independent School District crews have been installing systems designed to make campus buildings more energy efficient. Those steps ranged from installing light bulbs that use less energy to using motion detection sensors which allow lights to dim when spaces are not being occupied.
âThese systems cost us $160,000 in up front expenses,â Johnson said. âOur consultants say these systems will save us $23,000 a year, so hopefully, they'll pay for themselves within eight years.â
