Foul play not found in deaths of local women

August 2, 2013

The bodies of two Big Spring women who were discovered in the bathroom of their home Monday afternoon died of natural causes, according to law enforcement officials.

Autopsies on 83-year-old Helen Thomason and her daughter, 51-year-old Carol Thomason were performed Wednesday, according to officials with the Big Spring Police Department.

“The autopsy confirmed (there was) no foul play with either victim,” Sgt. Tony Everett, public information with the BSPD, said. “It appears the daughter, Carol Thomason, had fallen in the bathroom and due to her physical condition, was unable to get up. Her mother, Helen Thomason, attempted to help her daughter and, in doing so, suffered a fatal stroke. At that point Carol was unable to summon help and died from heart failure.”

The bodies of the two women were discovered Monday afternoon at their home, located at 1420 Stadium, after a postal worker asked police officials to perform a welfare check.
