Frances Walker, 98, of Big Spring died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers and Smith Chapel with burial at Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
She was born March 1, 1915, in Coahoma to Patty and Floyd Thomason. She married Alex Walker on April 29, 1933, in Lovington, N.M. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 2000. Along with being a homemaker, she farmed and ranched with her husband in the Salem Community. She was a life time resident of Howard County and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Merritt of Kennett, Mo.; one son, Wayne Walker of Big Spring; five granddaughters, Shayna Acuff of San Angelo, Charlene Land and husband Jeff of Big Spring, Chanda Jones and husband Darrell of Kennett, Mo., Jennifer Bell of Childress and Malinda Bell and husband Bob of Houston; three grandsons, Robbie Sparks and wife Malinda of Austin, Nathan Sparks and wife Renee of Kennett, Mo., and Wayne Lee Walker and wife Sandy of Houston; and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Francene Minchew; two sisters, Willie Lou Thomason and Pauline Jones; and one son-in-law, Mike Merritt.
