Frankie Rubio Sr., 54, of Big Spring died Thursday Aug. 22, 2013. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born July 6, 1959, to Sofia and Francisco Rubio at Cowper Clinic in Big Spring. He was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. He graduated from Big Spring High School. He attended both Southmost College in Brownsville and Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. He spent a longtime playing baseball in the minor leagues. In 1982 he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies. He married Lucy Rocha Feb. 14, 2004, in Big Spring. He also worked in construction as a bricklayer for Chico & Sons Concrete. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Rubio of Big Spring; eight children, Morgan Lopez of Big Spring, Vanessa Alonzo of New York, Felicia Rubio Bryant of North Carolina, Frankie Rubio Jr. of Big Spring, Magdalena Rubio, Andriana Orona, Faustino Rubio and Ismael Rubio, all of Odessa; four step-children: Joe Anthony Bustamante, Johnathon Bustamante, Elizabeth Bustamante and Victoria Bustamante, all of Big Spring; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Sofia Rubio of Big Spring; four sisters, Sandy Fierro of Midland, Patsy Rubio of Big Spring, Debra Rubio of Fort Worth and Delma Rubio of Big Spring; two brothers: Ysa Rubio and Fred Rubio, both of Big Spring; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Rubio in January 2006; his brother, Robert Rubio in November 2010 and one grandson in June 2013.
