Fund-raiser set to help kids attend camp

April 25, 2011

The Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club of Big Spring will be holding a community yard sale Saturday, May 21, to raise much-needed funds to send local youngsters to camp in June.

Sonnet Hildebrand, director of the local Boys and Girls Club, said the yard sale is slated for 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army office, located at 811 W. Fifth St., and will help give children within the Boys and Girls Club program a chance to attend a five-day camp.

“The camp is really an amazing time for the kids,” said Hildebrand. “They get to take part in activities like horseback riding, fishing, paintball and swimming. They also get a chance to play a lot of different sports, such as football, basketball and baseball, as well as take part in a ropes course.

“Morning activities include songs, praise and devotion. There are nighttime activities, as well, like movies and scavenger hunts, to help the kids with their social development.”
