Funtastic Fourth called 'success'

July 5, 2013

Celebrating Independence Day has been a long-standing tradition in Big Spring with Pops In The Park being the climax. The symphony playing songs of patriotism, a slide show honoring veterans and the fireworks display as the grand finale bring rave reviews each year.

To get everyone in a patriotic mood, the Funtastic Fourth has its place in the celebration. This year was the best to date, according to organizers.

“It was a a big success for the Downtown Revitalization Association,” said DRA vice president, Ramon Holguin.
An estimated 20,000 people attended the festivities last Friday and Saturday.

“In my three years, this was our best event to date. All the vendors did well and everybody was happy,” he added.

On the heels of the success of this year's Funtastic Fourth, next year's event is already being planned.
A follow up meeting will held in coming weeks to discuss the pros and cons of how it went this year and to formulate a plan for the 2014 festival.
