Music, fun, food — and pigs.

Funtastic Fourth organizers are promising a little bit of everything when the annual event returns later this month and they apparently are making good on their vow.

The Downtown Revitalization Association Presents the 10th Annual Alon USA/Alon Brands Funtastic Fourth will be held from 10 a.m. until midnight Saturday, June 30 in Big Spring's downtown area, and events include live music, give-aways, food, and, as a new twist, pig races.

Funtastic Fourth organizer Christy Brorman said the pig races will be previewed June 29 at Heart of the City Park. While the seriousness of the competition is up for debate, its goal is the same as everything else associated with the event — fun.

“It will be just an entire day of family fun,” Brorman promised. “We'll have a little bit of something for everybody … There's no need for anyone to go anywhere else that weekend — we'll have it all here.”

Bands from across the area will perform throughout the day, covering the musical spectrum from country to rock to Tejano to Christian, culminating in a performance from country and western artist Rick O'Toole, Brorman said.

In addition, vendors will serve a variety of foods and other goods, she said.

Admission to Funtastic Fourth is free, but organizers are still accepting vendors and sponsors to help defray costs. To donate, contact Brorman at 466-2268.
