Gayle S. Johnson

Gayle S. Johnson passed away Feb. 21, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. Her ashes will be interned next to her husband, Herbert Johnson Jr., on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.

A native of Memphis, Texas, she met and married her husband while they were attending West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. After Herby graduated from WT, Gayle and Herby moved to Big Spring in 1949. They briefly moved to the Panhandle until their return in 1955.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Pythian Sisters. She worked at Webb Air Force Base from 1955 until 1976. She served as the first female traffic management officer at Webb Air Force Base. In 1976, she transferred to Randolph Air Force Base in Universal City. She retired from civil service after 35 years of service.

Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Johnson Jr.; and her brother, Glen Stilwell of Memphis, Texas.

She is survived by her son, Danny Johnson of Austin; daughter, Teresa Johnson of San Antonio; sister, Doris Lindsey Flint of Dimmitt, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
