Gene Laroy Leonard, 65, of Big Spring died Friday, May 18, 2012, at his residence. Private family services will be held at a later date.
He was born Dec. 3, 1946, in Tucumcari, N.M. He owned and operated SteepleJacks for 15 years and then was a crane operator for Cathey Construction. He retired in 2009 due to ill health. He lived in Howard County for most of his life.
He is survived by two sons, Gene Leonard II of Fredericksburg and Justin Leonard of Big Spring; one daughter, Sonya McAvey of Sun Ray, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Oaks of Boerne and Tammi Murphy of Amarillo; and one brother, James Leonard of Washington.
