George C. Sloan

George C. Sloan, 82, of Big Spring died Thursday, June 7, 2012, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Donita Lea and Bill Sloan officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Clarendon, Texas, and married Lola Thibodeau on June 27, 1956, in Big Lake, Texas.

George moved to Graham when he was 5 years old. He moved to Oklahoma at age 9 and lived there for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Army for two years from 1952 to 1954 and moved to Coahoma in 1955. He went to work for Fleming Oil Company, which is now Walsh & Watts, in April 1957, and retired in 1997 after 40 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Coahoma.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Sloan of Big Spring; one son, Jerry Sloan and wife Janet of Big Spring; two daughters, Martha Jones and husband Jesse of Big Spring and Debbie Holley and husband Daryl of Marble Falls; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and two sisters.
The family suggests memorials be made to Crossroads Hospice, 421 Main St., Big Spring, Texas 79720.
