Lisa Smartt has a message for you: You're not perfect, you'll probably never be perfect and you might as well accept the fact. Oh, and the person next to you? Not perfect either. So both of you can do yourselves a big favor by laughing at the absurdity of it all. Smartt, the self-described “Queen of Imperfection,” will keynote Scenic Mountain Medical Center's Healthy Woman second anniversary celebration Thursday at Dora Roberts Community Center. The “Wild About Healthy Woman” gala will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a health expo featuring a wide variety of vendors offering products and services, with a gourmet meal following at 6:30 p.m., said Kim Howell, Healthy Woman co-coordinator. Highlighting the festivities will be Smartt, a comedienne and author of a weekly humor column whose presentation will be entitled, “Help for Women Who Can't Find Their Keys.” The talk, Smartt said, is aimed at women (and she includes herself in this group) who tend to obsess too much over their imperfections. “Absolutely they do,” she said. “And they compare themselves to other people without understanding anything about those people. They think others are perfect, but they don't understand that everyone has issues.” Those issues could be weight, as it has been with Smartt. “I've had auctioneer weight my whole life,” she said. “It's been 'up 45, down 45, up 25, do I hear 25?' for me. The good thing is that I never smoked a day in my life. I was too busy eating.” For more information on Healthy Woman or Thursday's celebration, contact Howell at 268-4842 or Anita Cline at 268-4721.
