Over the years, Jay worked for several railroads and retired in 1982. Vivian worked for the federal service and retired in 1976.

They have one surviving son, Wayne E. Griffith of Austin. A second son, Robert Elwin Griffith, died in March of 1969, a war casualty in Vietnam. They have two grandchildren, Wesley Jay Griffith and Cali Lindsey Griffith, and one great-grandchild, Robert Griffith.

The Griffiths are members of the Birdwell Lane Church of Christ, where they have worshipped for many years and Mr. Griffith has served as an Elder for several years.

Among Jay's many hobbies is rock collecting from numerous counties in Texas, collecting model cars and other western memorabilia. He is a member of the Prospector's Club.

Jay and Vivian have both been avid readers for years and have enjoyed traveling. They have taken many trips with friends and family, especially to the Big Bend area.

The couple say their life together has been filled with a deep faith in God, love and joy for each other, their children and grandchildren, and many friends.
